This fellowship provides support to student veterans to pursue their doctoral education at Florida International University. Session 4 SeptemLEARNING COMMUNITIES MUST SHARE DRAFT OF WORK(S) IN PROGRESS WITH PROFESSOR AS E-MAIL ATTACHED WORD FILE NO LATER THAN 11:30 PM ON September 3, 2012: (1) THE ARGUMENTATIVE PAPER TEMPLATE (Title Page, Introduction) and (2) THE MEETING STANDARDS TEMPLATE (Learning Objective #1) and, EACH CLASS MEMBER MUST SHARE DRAFT OF WORK IN PROGRESS WITH THE PROFESSOR AS E-MAIL ATTACHED WORD FILE NO LATER THAN 11:30PM ON September 6, 2012: (1) HABITS OF MIND INVENTORY (Learning Objective #1) LEARNING FOR OBJECTIVE #2 After a review of tutorials on literature review and APA Style, and participating in an information inquiry and research strategies session with a Reference Librarian, candidates in their learning communities will use search strategies information effectively to write a literature review of key concepts in the problem question.In honor and recognition of our veterans’ service, the University Graduate School has established the UGS Veteran’s Fellowship.

The learning session will focus on: The difference between moral and ethical The definition of philosophy and its relation to moral Ideas and their significance The idea of justification a key ingredient in moral and philosophy Kinds of questions REFLECT ON LEARNING IN OBJECTIVE #1 Reflect on what was done and what was learned Group reflections on whether learning in Objective #1 helped group members to meet Institutional, State and Professional Standards Reflections by class members on whether they demonstrated the habits of mind for Learning Objective #1 APPLY LEARNING FROM OBJECTIVE #1 Class members apply their learning to formulating a moral/philosophical problem question and to providing a written introduction to the problem Each learning community will share its ideas for its problem question(s) with the Professor, and use his feedback to review and revise its problem question, and then start work in progress on drafting the Introduction section of the paper, and making plans to submit that work in progress to the professor by 11:30pm on September 3, 2012. Session 2 AugSession 2 and 3 AugSeptem(holiday) APPLY – Produce justification for position on problem question in Argumentative Paper through inquiry process LEARNING FOR OBJECTIVE #1 Given a working prompt by the instructor, candidates working in learning communities will use their understanding of moral, philosophical, and justification, and through consensus, identify and construct a moral/philosophical problem question in the field of education and using a template provided by the instructor prepare a written introduction to the problem question by contrasting the pros and cons in the problem and by laying out the overall argumentative (justification) paper’s components.
